Notebooks for Anna Magdalena Bach - part 2

Minuet in G Minor, BWV Ahn 115

This minuet was also composed by the German Baroque composer Christian Petzold (1677-1733).

The previous minuet was in G Major, while this one is in G minor. Pay attention to the sound, and try to recognize how this minuet sounds “sadder” and less “joyful” then the G Major one.

The first minuet was performed on the harpsichord, while this one is being performed on the piano. Can you hear the difference in the sound of these two instruments?

The performer of this piece is Rosalyn Tureck (1913-2003), an American pianist that became famous for her performances of Bach’s works.

Dave Brubeck

The pianist and composer Dave Brubeck passed on yesterday, having left a very long legacy of great music along the way. The obvious points of interest surround his Quartet, and the recording Time Out, but there is much more to his story.
