Music Immersion
a better way to become a musician

"Immersion:  instruction based on extensive exposure to surroundings or conditions that are native or pertinent to the object or study; especially, foreign language instruction in which only the language being taught is used." Merriam-Webster.com

It takes more than a series 30- or 45-minute weekly lessons to become a musician. Immersion provides the best chance for a student or emerging artist to connect with music and the wider community in a meaningful and sustained way.  This is the founding and guiding principle of the CMC Atlanta GAP and ART programs.

Artist Resident & Teacher
Artist residencies for emerging professional musicians and educators

Through the CMC Atlanta Artist Residency & Teaching Program (ART), we offer qualified performers and emerging educators an opportunity to live in a studio apartment at our Center in Little 5 Points. The resident artists teach lessons, write blogs about playing and teaching, and perform at the Center and nearby venues on occasion.  The program is designed to provide ample practice or writing time, necessary for those devoted to honing their craft, and interaction with both peers and the local community as an artistic and educational resource and performer.

To compensate, we offer the ART faculty:

  • free housing (including all utilities and internet/cable access)
  • use of the Music Center for practice, rehearsal, and for socializing
  • use of other Center resources (such as printers and copiers)
  • a stipend (exact amount depending on the number of students and performances)
  • health and dental insurance if it's not available through graduate school enrollment

CMC Little 5 Points is ideal for emerging American and international musicians. It's close by the MARTA train, the neighborhood is renowned as the counter culture center in Atlanta, and there are many restaurants, cafes and coffee shops a short walk from ART resident apartments.  CMC Little 5 Points is also a very short walk or bike ride to the Atlanta Beltline, a nationally acclaimed new bike and pedestrian trail system that connects Little 5 Points/Inman Park with many other vibrant Atlanta neighborhoods like Midtown, the Old Fourth Ward, Cabbagetown and more.
