Country, Folk & Rockabilly : Decatur

July 22-26, 2019

8 am to 6:00 pm (Full Day); 8 am to 12:30 pm or 12:00 to 6:00 pm (Half Day)

Overview

Under the guidance of the CMC Atlanta faculty, campers will spend the week learning to sing and play great country and roots tunes from the American songbook, and they'll learn a bit about the history of country and folk music in America.  It's a mix of playing for fun and preparing for an informal Showcase of cover tunes on the last day of camp.

We group by age and skill level.  Both beginners and more advanced players are welcome.  Songs will be chosen to accommodate the skills and interests of specific campers who attend.

Camp wraps up with Showcase on the last day.  Campers will also be invited to come back and join us and perform on the CMC Atlanta Student Showcase at the end of camp.

Activities

Campers spend the mornings and late afternoons learning parts and preparing the Showcase. Camp activities are designed to meet the needs of the specific students who attend.  Beginners will be provided necessary support to get started on the instrument of choice though private lessons and small group classes.  More advanced players will be coached on harder parts and introduced to more advanced concepts and skills.  All students will start learning to read music and charts, or in the case of more experienced players, improve their reading skills.  Students will also write country and folk songs with peers.

During the mid afternoon break, students will take up summertime favorites, like playing kickball or frisbee with Center faculty and counselors in the park or heading to the ice cream shop.  A set of rehearsals and group activities mid-to-late afternoon will round off the day.
