Student Showcase @ Variety Playhouse

Written by

It's official!  Friday, July 11 we're hosting a Student Showcase at the Variety Playhouse in Little 5 Points. The 8 pm show will feature an intergenerational line up students, faculty, alumni, alumnae, and friends performing a mix of jazz, rock and roots standards, covers and originals. This is an incredible opportunity to be part of a fun show we're producing ourselves at Atlanta's best music venue!  Best of all, through participating in or coming to the Showcase young performers and audience will be supporting our outreach to under-resourced youth.

Who's eligible to perform?

You're student is invited!

Some of our most advanced students will headline the Showcase at Variety Playhouse, but any Elementary Division student who attended or is going to attend CMC Atlanta in the spring or summer of 2014 is welcome to join one of the singing troupes to perform on stage at Variety Playhouse.  In fact, we want all our students to be part of the show.

How do I register a student to perform and what's required?

The Showcase requires very little time commitment from our Elementary Division students because the students will be performing the songs they learned this past spring or this summer in AMP, at camp or in Saturday Morning Music School.   Most students only need to attend one 30- or 60-minute rehearsal between now and the July 11 show.  For your convenience, we have daily rehearsals scheduled to choose from.  (The full schedule of options is posted below.)  We'll use the rehearsal time to refresh memories and also for those who simply want to get back to singing with their CMC faculty and friends.  We'll also post videos and lyrics so students can get prep by singing along from home.  If your student is a camper, and hasn't joined us at camp yet, it may be best for him or her to come to at least three of the rehearsals, but even this is negotiable.

Register to Perform (it takes 2 seconds, I promise)

The Showcase is a Benefit Concert to Support Under-Resourced Youth

Ticket sales and the proceeds from the Silent Auction before the show will be used to support CMC Atlanta outreach to under resourced and under served youth.  Among the beneficiaries this summer are two of our 2014 CMC Atlanta graduates, singer Lyric Rachae and pianist Isaiah Hill.  It's incredible really-- both Lyric and Isaiah earned full ride scholarships to attened Berklee College of Music this fall.  When you hear them at the Showcase, you'll know why.  We're raising funds to help cover their travel costs and the cost of their housing this summer.  The day after our Showcase, they'll be leaving for Boston so they can attend the Berklee City Music Summer Program, a 5-week long intensive designed to prepare and to transition serious young musicians like Lyric and Isaiah to collegiate studies.  At the end of the Summer Program, they'll be moving into their dorm rooms and taking their next steps to reaching their goals as musical artists.  We need your help getting them to Berklee and beyond.

Even if your student(s) cannot perform, we invite you to join us.  And bring friends!  Tickets are now on sale via Ticketmaster and also at the Variety Playhouse Box Office
